General Boy Scout Training for Adults

Youth Protection, Fast Start, This Is Scouting, Leader Specific Training and Outdoor Leader Training are the basic courses that every adult leader should have within 90 days of registering as a Boy Scout Leader. These courses are now mandatory for any Scoutmaster as of Jan. 1, 2010. They will be mandatory for all leaders who work with boys (Assistant Scoutmasters, Merit Badge Counselors, etc) as of Jan 1, 2011.

Youth Protection (Basic and Venture Version)

The Basic version gives a thorough understanding of the Boy Scouts of America's Policy on how to protect youth from emotional, physical and sexual abuse; and how adults can protect themselves from false accusations of emotional, physical and sexual abuse. The Venture version specifically addresses the changes older teens go through as they mature, and how these changes affect the way they interact with each other and adults. Many of these older scouts are still active in Boy Scout Troops; therefore, the Venture Version of this course is recommended for Boy Scout Leaders/parents, not just Venture Leaders/parents. Offered online at myscouting.scouting.org.
